So you picked your destination and booked your flights.
Where To Stay ?
Having a wonderful vacation experience is heavily dependent on whether or not your overnight accommodations are good. There is nothing worse than planning a trip and arriving to a horrible accommodation. There are many options to choose from but I will focus on vacation home rentals, timeshares and hotels.
Vacation Home Rentals
If you are traveling with a group this may be the best bang for your buck, homeaway.com is a site where you can search vacation home rentals in any destination. A 5 bedroom home at VA Beach will cost you $545 a night, sounds steep. However if there are 5 couples attending this trip it rounds out to $381 per person for a 7 night stay. Which is $58 a night per person. Not to bad for a home a block from the beach, that sleeps 14 people and has a full kitchen and 2 baths. You can save money by not eating every meal out and cooking in the home. Homes are usually rented for a week at a time.
Timeshare can get a little confusing and there are scams so beware.
RCI is a good timeshare company here is a excerpt from their website explaining timeshare “Timeshare, also known as Vacation Ownership, gives you the opportunity to own condominium-style accommodations at quality resorts, which typically offer an array of amenities in popular domestic and international destinations. Timeshare accommodations offer spacious floor plans and home-like amenities when compared with traditional hospitality products like hotels, and may include kitchens, laundry facilities, living room space, and multiple bedrooms – all in the privacy of your own unit.” https://www.endlessvacationrentals.com/vacation-ownership/about-timeshare?&id1=RCI.com&id2=AboutTimeshare also has information about buying a timeshare and the deals. A timeshare can cost about $4,000 and you have to pay a yearly fee of about $600 along with fees to stay in a location other than your homesite and a booking fee. Some companies have all inclusive trips with food included. There are also deals for non owners. You can book these for a week at a time.
Search hotels on sites like hotels.com, kayak.com and orbitz.com. Or search on trip advisor.com. Tripadvisor is my personal favorite because there are many reviews for the properties listed. Makes it easy to find the perfect hotel for your getaway.
Stay away from companies that sell hotel time in bulk, such as Sundance Vacations Company. They over charge, there are a lot of blackout dates and the hotels are never as nice as pictured.
Do your research and pick the best deal for you.
*For my West Palm Beach vacation I will be staying on Singer Island at Marriot’s Ocean Pointe, a timeshare report. The reviews are mixed. The property is beach front and the rooms look nice. My hopes are high so wish me luck.
